After weeks of waiting and speculation about his future, Franco Colapinto received the confirmation he was looking for. Alpine announced this Thursday that the Argentine will continue as a full-time driver during the 2027 season of Formula 1, which means he will face his fourth season in the top category and the second since the start of a full championship.
The renewal signifies the continuation of a project that began more than a year ago and that, according to Colapinto himself, has shown constant evolution. "It means a lot to continue with Alpine and Renault. To keep building this path together that we started more than a year ago. We have progressed a lot, it has been a constant evolution and I felt part of the family", the Argentine expressed through the official channels of the team.
The 23-year-old driver also highlighted the growth he experienced alongside the team, especially after a challenging 2025. "I am happy to continue here, for this opportunity and I am very eager for the future. We had a leap in 2026 and we are going to take another one in 2027", he stated. In that sense, he emphasized that Alpine managed to overcome difficult moments and become a more solid group.
For the Buenos Aires native, the current season also represented an important learning phase. The adaptation to the new regulations and having a complete preseason allowed him to better understand the behavior of the car and the tires. "I adapted well to the new regulations, but having a complete preseason was key to getting to know the car and the tires. Having another year like this will be very helpful to continue progressing and improving as an athlete", he explained.
The Argentine still understands that he has aspects to improve and is already thinking about more ambitious goals for the coming years. "The goal for everyone is to fight for points, in the future top five and then podiums", he affirmed, before especially thanking Flavio Briatore, the members of Alpine, and his teammate Pierre Gasly.
The news also had a special chapter for Argentine fans, who have supported the driver since his arrival in Formula 1 in 2024. Colapinto valued the effort of those who travel to different races to support him and assured that this backing represents an additional motivation. "I am super proud to be Argentine and to have all these people who come to support me at every race. There are many Argentines everywhere, it means a lot to me and I know how difficult it is to make the effort to come and support me. I appreciate it a lot. It gives me a lot of strength and makes me want to do well for them too", he stated.
"In my case, I am privileged and fortunate to have the support of my country and so many people who want me to do well and I want to give them all what they deserve. I hope we can all enjoy this season together and focus on the next one with everything to have a much better car", he added.
The confirmation will allow the Argentine to face the next season with the continuity he did not have since his debut. With the Alpine project consolidated and a car that, according to his assessment, showed progress during 2026, Colapinto has already set his sights on what is to come: "Let's keep pushing, let's keep improving. There is still much to come. This is just the beginning. So we will continue to work hard to bring Alpine and Renault to the place they deserve, and we will have a great 2027 together".
When Colapinto Returns to Race
After his complicated participation in Zandvoort, the Argentine, who will now have the improvements in his A526 that Alpine developed during the summer break, will seek to recover at the Italian Grand Prix. Activities at the legendary Italian circuit will begin on Friday, September 4 with his first free practices and will conclude on Sunday, the 6th with the main race.
