Free PAMI medications: coverage and requirements for December 2025

PAMI will maintain its free medication program throughout December 2025, a system that guarantees full coverage of essential treatments. According to the official information from the organization, the measure is sustained through two main mechanisms: an essential medication formulary and a social subsidy for members facing economic difficulties.

The benefit is aimed at retirees and pensioners, especially those who require long-term treatments for chronic illnesses such as hypertension, diabetes, or high cholesterol, as well as costly therapies related to serious diseases.

PAMI free medications for retirees: what is covered

The 100% coverage is organized into three main groups, each with its own scope and requirements.

1. Essential formulary

• Includes more than 160 essential medications for common conditions in older adults.
• Covers treatments for hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol, and cardiovascular diseases.
• A recent court ruling ordered the reinstatement of a previous version of the list.

2. Medications for serious diseases

• Oncological treatments.
• Medications for HIV, hepatitis B and C.
• Hemophilia, rheumatoid arthritis, and medications related to transplants.

3. Social subsidy

• Covers medications not included in the essential formulary.
• Granted according to the member's socioeconomic status.
• Requires medical validation and verification of vulnerability.

How to access PAMI's free medications

The organization requires compliance with certain economic and asset requirements. If the member doesn't meet the first two requirements (income and private health insurance), there is an exception if the cost of the treatment exceeds 15% of their income.

Income and asset requirements

• Income less than 1.5 minimum pensions.
• Households with a cohabitant with CUD: income below 3 minimum pensions.
• Not having simultaneous private health insurance.
• Not owning more than one property.
• Not owning luxury aircraft or boats.
• Not owning vehicles less than 10 years old (except for households with CUD).
• Not being the holder of corporate assets that indicate economic capacity.

Procedure to apply for the social subsidy

The procedure is online and is managed through the organization's official website.

• Go to pami.org.ar.
• Select "Free medications through social subsidy."
• Complete the application with personal and medical information.

 

Approval depends on a social report, the socio-health vulnerability scale, and medical revalidation. Once granted, the member can collect the medications at no cost from participating pharmacies.

Access is not automatic: it requires management to ensure that the benefit reaches those who truly need it.
