Boca's defeat against River in the Superclásico was the trigger that marked the end of Fernando Gago's tenure as the team's coach. The 2-1 loss at the Monumental stadium tipped the balance for the management, led by Juan Román Riquelme, who decided to end his short 198-day tenure.
The official announcement was made by Chicho Serna, a member of the Football Council and Riquelme's trusted man. "Fernando Gago and his coaching staff have reached the end of their time with the institution. We are very grateful, he put in all his effort, but there are situations that led us to make a final decision," he stated in a clear and forceful message.

With his departure, Gago becomes the sixth coach to leave his position under Riquelme's current management. Now, the focus is on defining his successor, and the main candidate being mentioned in the Boca world is Gabriel Milito.
