The Torino forward confessed that at the end of 2024 he was close to returning to the club where he made his debut, although he decided to continue in Europe

Almost ten years after his move to European soccer, Giovanni Simeone is experiencing a new chapter in his career, this time wearing the Torino jersey, where he arrived in mid-2025 on a one-season loan from Napoli. In just eight matches, the forward who came up through River has scored three goals, establishing himself as an important piece in the attack for the Granata side.

In an interview with Olé, Cholo's son spoke about his current situation and surprised everyone by revealing that he was very close to returning to Millonario at the end of 2024, although he decided to stay in Italy.

"About two years ago Racing called me, but I was at Napoli and honestly it wasn't the right time to come back. I was surprised and I really liked that they called me. Meanwhile, in December of last year I had the chance to go to River. Right now I find it difficult to leave, but I don't see it as a definite no. It's something that I would like. I really like Argentine soccer, it's passionate and, in addition, I miss Argentina quite a lot," Gio admitted.

Having come up through the youth ranks at Núñez, the oldest of the Simeone brothers made his debut for River's first team in 2013, played 33 official matches, scored four goals, and provided two assists before continuing his career at Banfield and then making the leap to Europe.

He also spoke about Millonario's current sporting situation, which is going through a period of ups and downs this season: "When I can, I follow Argentine soccer, it's always late but I try to watch as much as I can. Rosario is doing very well, I think it's a shame that River isn't going through a good moment right now."
