The national government deployed a strong immigration control operation in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Liniers this Friday, with the objective of detecting undocumented foreigners or foreigners in an irregular immigration situation. The procedure is being carried out with the participation of more than 150 officers from the Argentine Federal Police, together with personnel from the National Directorate of Migration.
The controls are concentrated in shops, fairs, and high-traffic areas located in the vicinity of the intersection of General Paz Avenue and Falcón. During the procedure, the agents request documentation from foreign citizens in order to verify their immigration status. In cases in which administrative irregularities are detected, the individuals are ordered to regularize their situation before migration authorities, and they are granted a period of time to submit the corresponding documentation.
In addition to document verification, fingerprint checks are carried out in order to determine whether the individuals have criminal records. In that context, at least two people were arrested: a woman with an open case for robbery and a man under investigation for fraud, according to official sources.
The operation in Liniers is part of a policy of strengthening immigration controls that the Executive has been intensifying since the beginning of President Javier Milei's administration, with the objective of ensuring the effective enforcement of the law and putting an end to years of permissiveness and lack of oversight.
Just a few days ago, the government carried out a similar procedure in Villa Celina, in the district of La Matanza. On that day, the documentation of 385 foreign citizens was checked and 16 people in an irregular immigration situation were detected, who became subject to the corresponding administrative procedures and could be expelled from the country if they don't regularize their situation.
El antecedente fue en Villa Adelina.
The National Ministry of Security clarified that these operations are not aimed at foreigners who reside legally in Argentina, nor at those who have residence procedures in progress. On the contrary, the strategy seeks to identify irregular cases and channel them within the current legal framework.
The deployment in Liniers once again caused reactions in some sectors, with alarmist versions spread on social networks. However, official sources denied any type of mass deportation or forced transfers, and they emphasized that all procedures comply with the usual administrative steps.
