In a show of force that reaffirms the absolute dominance of the United States over the region, the U.S. Embassy in Caracas conducted a mass evacuation drill this Saturday, May 23, 2026. This exercise, far from being a simple routine, represents a crucial advance in the president's three-phase plan for Venezuela, consolidating the U.S. military's rapid response capability in South American territory.

The operation was formally authorized by the transitional government led by acting president Delcy Rodríguez, evidencing unprecedented cooperation in security and consular protection following the era of Nicolás Maduro.

The military deployment was personally supervised by General Francis Donovan, head of the U.S. Southern Command, who sent a strong message of support for Venezuelan sovereignty by stating: “We are committed to a free, secure, and prosperous Venezuela for Venezuelans”. The presence of the highest military authority of the Southern Command in the capital underscores the Trump administration's commitment to regional stability.

From a technical and tactical standpoint, the operation demonstrated surgical precision:

Naval Deployment: The USS Iwo Jima (LHD7) amphibious assault ship and the USS Lake Erie (CG70) guided missile cruiser were strategically positioned less than 6 nautical miles (11 kilometers) from La Guaira, remaining in Venezuelan waters as a guarantee of immediate support.

Aerial Incursion: An MH-60S Knighthawk helicopter, identified with the call sign RWDY71 and coming from the USS Iwo Jima, flew over the capital entering through the Tacagua corridor to land at the diplomatic headquarters.

Action at the Embassy: During the morning, the alarm of the premises was activated, proceeding with the coordinated entry of an ambulance and a fire truck to simulate the response to catastrophic situations or medical emergencies.

This milestone of bilateral cooperation was previously announced by Foreign Minister Yván Gil, detailing that the maneuvers were coordinated with the Venezuelan Red Cross and supervised by the national aviation authorities. It is noteworthy that the USS Iwo Jima has a history of success in the area, having participated in operations against the Cartel of the Suns and being the ship that transported the former dictator Nicolás Maduro after his capture on January 3.

In parallel to this demonstration of order and legality, the government of Delcy Rodríguez continues to align with demands for justice, announcing that the number of political prisoner releases will exceed 500 in the coming hours. This measure adds to the 8,740 individuals who have already been granted full freedom under the Amnesty Law since February, marking a drastic shift in domestic policy under the watchful eye of Washington.
