The Government increases quotas for importing electric cars without tariffs in 2025
The government launches another call to import electric cars with zero tariffs and promote competition
The national government has opened a new call to import hybrid and electric cars with zero tariffs. The measure aims to promote sustainable mobility and increase competition in the automotive sector.
So far, more than 28,000 units have been allocated out of a total of 50,000 authorized for this year. With this new call, the remaining balance can be distributed among manufacturers and legal entities.

What does the new call involve?
The resolution was published this Wednesday in the Official Gazette under number 210/2025. It establishes a new call for legal entities interested in importing cars with a tariff reduction provided for in Decree 49/2025.
This decree allows the importation of hybrid and electric vehicles with zero tariffs in the Extrazone Import Duty (DIE). The measure seeks to cover the quota of 50,000 units assigned for all of 2025.
A review of what has already been allocated
- First call: March 14, 2025.
- Second call: April 15, 2025.
- Allocated to date: 28,262 vehicles.

With a remaining balance unused, a third call has been made official to complete the available annual quota.
How many more vehicles can be imported?
21,738 units remain to be allocated, according to Esteban Marzorati, Secretary of Industry and Commerce.
- 15,715 vehicles will be for manufacturers established and producing in Argentina.
- 6,023 units will be allocated to other interested legal entities.

If there are remaining balances in any category, they may be reassigned to applicants from the other. They may also be redistributed if a quota expires or is not used.
What conditions must the vehicles meet?
To access the benefit, vehicles must have a FOB price of up to 16,000 dollars. This ensures that the models are affordable and compatible with the intention to expand the use of clean technologies.
In addition, the focus is on promoting a transition toward more sustainable mobility, without affecting domestic production or market balance.

A measure aimed at lowering prices
Javier Milei's government aims to generate more competition in the automotive sector so that prices decrease. The elimination of the first scale and the reduction of the second of internal taxes have already produced a partial decrease.
Now, with the new call for duty-free imports, the market is expected to have more options for electric and hybrid vehicles at competitive prices.
