The national government has introduced a comprehensive modification of the Voluntary Military Service, aiming to attract more young people who are currently neither studying nor working, and to offer them a broader education than one that is exclusively military. The decision was announced by presidential spokesperson Manuel Adorni, who stated that the goal is to "instill in young Argentinians the high values that have always characterized the Armed Forces: effort, valor."
The program redesign includes raising the maximum entry age to 28 years old (previously 24) and coordination between the Ministry of Defense, led by Luis Petri, and the Ministry of Human Capital, headed by Sandra Pettovello. Both ministries will work on an educational pathway that combines military instruction with formal education and job training.
Comprehensive training and new requirements
One of the key conditions will be that applicants must have completed secondary education, or pursue it during their time in military units, through an intermediate educational system provided by Human Capital.
In addition, those who join will receive formal certification in trades such as cooking, mechanics, administration, masonry, welding, or driving, which is intended to facilitate their subsequent entry into the workforce.
