The Government sent 1,900 military personnel to Salta to reinforce the border with Bolivia.

This occurs within the framework of the expansion of the Plan Güemes and the Julio Argentino Roca Operation

Yesterday, Tuesday, May 6, a contingent of 1,900 soldiers from the Argentine Army arrived in the city of Tartagal, in the province of Salta, as part of the expansion of the Güemes Plan and the Julio Argentino Roca Operation, an initiative promoted by the Government of Javier Milei.

The main objective of the operation is to strengthen control on the northern border of Salta, with a particular focus on the fight against drug trafficking, illegal immigration, and smuggling.

The province's Secretary of Security, Nicolás Avellaneda, highlighted the importance of the deployment, confirmed the presence of the troops, and valued the measure as key to organizing the situation in the border area with Bolivia. "It's a very important contribution from the national government," stated the Salta official.

The arrival of these forces is part of a broader national strategy that began with the implementation of the Güemes Plan last December in the Orán department, and now extends to the San Martín and Rivadavia departments.

The proposal, which was presented in April by the Minister of Defense, Luis Petri, involves coordination between Javier Milei's administration and the government of Salta.

From the province, they emphasize that this operation will not only contribute to the work already being done by federal and local forces but also specifically aims to reinforce surveillance at border crossings.

In this context, Avellaneda detailed that the participation of the Argentine Army will be in a support capacity, although in situations where crimes in flagrante delicto are detected, such as drug trafficking or smuggling, it may act directly.

"A very strong blow is being dealt to drug trafficking. All crimes related to drug criminality have decreased in this first quarter," Avellaneda noted in statements to the local station FM Aries. "We have a very extensive border and we believe this contribution will really help," he added.

The Julio Argentino Roca Operation is based on the incorporation of cutting-edge technology, including drones, mobile radars, helicopters, and even a Diamond aircraft, which will allow for more efficient surveillance in rural areas and remote areas far from urban centers.

These technological resources will be key within the operational scheme, as they will facilitate a swift and adaptable response by the troops to the various situations that may arise along the country's extensive northern border.
