Domestic beef consumption in Argentina showed growth in the first six months of 2025. According to official data, 1.15 million tons (2.54 million pounds) were allocated to the local market, 114,000 tons (251,327 pounds) more than in 2024. This increase is the result of a growing supply and relatively stable prices at the counter.
In the same period, total production reached 1.52 million tons (3.35 million pounds), 1.8% more than in 2024. Although there was a decrease in exports of 85,000 tons (187,393 pounds) less than in the same period, this benefited the supply for the domestic market.
Per capita consumption in 2025 is approaching 50 kilos (110 pounds) annually, reflecting a recovery after years of declining purchasing power. This data highlights the stability in real terms of meat prices during the first half of the year.

Production and pregnancy rates in the Cuenca del Salado
The INTA Cuenca del Salado report indicated a pregnancy rate by palpation of 88.2% in fall 2025. This represents an improvement compared to 2024 and exceeds the historical average for 2018-2024. The survey covered 21 districts and 250,600 breeding females, almost 10% of the regional total.
The loss between pregnancy and weaning in 2025 was only 7.6%, better than the historical average of 11.2%. This reflects good body condition and better field conditions during spring 2024. These results anticipate an improvement in national livestock production.
At the national level, weaning in 2026 is projected to see a slight increase compared to the 14.5 million calves in 2025. Improvement in genetics and sustainable management are key factors for this positive trend.
