After more than two years of captivity in Gaza, the hostages were handed over to Israel's health authorities
Hostages Square ceased to be a place of mourning and became a symbol of victory. Thousands of Israelis celebrated in the morning the release of the last 20 hostages who had remained captive in Gaza since the terrorist attack of October 7, 2023.
Among those released are three Argentinians: David and Ariel Cunio, and Eitan Horn, who were kidnapped in kibbutz Nir Oz. After 738 days of captivity, the terrorist group Hamas no longer holds any Israeli hostages alive in its hands.

Trump, architect of the agreement
The release took place after the implementation of the peace plan promoted by Donald Trump, who arrived in Israel to participate in the historic day. The American president will meet with families of hostages and will speak before the Jerusalem Parliament. He will subsequently travel to Egypt to seal the peace agreement.

The agreement between Israel and Hamas, designed by Trump's team together with Arab and Western mediators, established the release of the hostages and a gradual withdrawal of Israeli troops from Palestinian territory, along with the creation of a new institutional framework in Gaza under international supervision.
Rescue operation
The International Red Cross received the hostages at different points in Gaza and handed them over to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), who transported them to the Re'im complex where the families of the hostages awaited them. From there, military helicopters took them to designated hospitals —Ichilov, Sheba, and Beilinson— for their recovery.

The protocol included psychological care, medical examinations, and immediate family support. Beilinson Hospital, specially prepared for these cases, prioritized privacy and emotional support: "They have to feel that they're regaining control," explained the head of social treatment, Keren Schwartz.
Michal Aldar, spokesperson for Clalit hospitals, also stated, "The building is new, it hasn't been used until now, it was designed for this: to offer an intimate environment, away from exposure and noise. Only immediate families will be allowed to enter, maintaining absolute privacy."
Those who did not return
Not everyone had the same fate. The bodies of 26 hostages who died in captivity, including Argentinian Lior Rudaeff, will be repatriated between today and tomorrow. The coffins will be draped with the Israeli flag and will receive military honors before being transferred to the Tel Aviv Forensic Institute.

The process of identifying the bodies will take between 10 and 48 hours, with sober ceremonies and the accompaniment of the families.
A historic agreement for the Middle East
The Trump peace plan, which will be signed at the Sharm el-Sheikh Summit, proposes a de-radicalized and terrorism-free Gaza. It includes the disarmament of Hamas, the formation of an international security force, and the establishment of a new government structure in Gaza. It also provides for the reconstruction of the devastated enclave and international coordination to ensure long-term stability.

The initiative provides amnesty for fighters who surrender their weapons, free exit for those who wish to emigrate, and immediate humanitarian aid coordinated by the UN and the Red Cross. Israel, meanwhile, commits not to occupy or annex the territory and to maintain only a temporary security perimeter.
A moral and political victory
Two years after the bloodiest attack against Israel, the country once again sees its flags waving as a sign of hope. The release of the hostages symbolizes the defeat of terrorism and the triumph of diplomacy with the United States at the center of the stage, ensuring peace and democracy.
