Héctor Daer steps down from the leadership of the Healthcare Workers' Union and leaves his position at the CGT
Just like Pablo Moyano, Daer made the decision to step down due to the success of Javier Milei's government
After 24 years leading the Argentine Health Workers Association (ATSA), Buenos Aires branch, Héctor Daer (63) decided not to run for the renewal of authorities and will not be a candidate in the union's upcoming elections.
This way, he will leave his position as General Secretary. During a farewell event, he also announced that he will not continue as co-secretary of the General Confederation of Labor (CGT), mirroring the decision made by Pablo Moyano several months ago, who resigned due to the success of the Government of Javier Milei.
"I'm leaving the General Secretariat of ATSA, but I'm not stepping away from activism. After years dedicating part of my life to this union, I'm leaving happy knowing that Celeste y Blanca remains strong and continues to protect our organization," Daer said during an event for the Celeste y Blanca slate.

"When we built power in ATSA, we didn't do it thinking of a personal mandate, but thinking of the future, of an organization that will outlast us and continue to grow with every female and male colleague," the union leader added.
He concluded: "Celeste y Blanca was and is my life. We have plenty of female and male colleagues with leadership to continue strengthening our union."
In the context of the union's internal elections, the slate led by Daer will face opposition. Therefore, upon announcing his retirement, he encouraged his colleagues: "I'm convinced: Celeste y Blanca will continue building power to defend health workers. We have leaders with commitment, history, and future. The struggle doesn't end with an election, the struggle is every day."

He concluded: "The struggle is ongoing, convincing every female and male colleague that every vote strengthens our power to defend jobs and Argentina. Without opportunism, with solidarity and the Celeste y Blanca identity." Daer supports Javier Pokoik as his successor and proposes Norberto Maschio as deputy secretary on the same slate.
Currently, in addition to leading ATSA Buenos Aires, Daer has headed the Federation of Argentine Health Workers Associations (FATSA) since 2022, following the retirement of leader Carlos West Ocampo.
Back in April, Daer had already indicated that he would also not seek to remain at the head of the General Confederation of Labor (CGT), an entity he reached one of the top leadership positions in almost ten years ago.
