High taxes in Córdoba: Mercado Libre increases surcharges for selling from the province
Since July, local tax pressure will directly impact sellers and users from Córdoba
For the first time, Mercado Libre and Mercado Pago will apply a differentiated commission scheme according to the seller's province. This decision aims to reflect the true weight of the Gross Income Tax (IIBB), which varies drastically between jurisdictions. Starting July 8, tax efficiency will be rewarded and fiscal excess will be penalized.
Until now, the charges were the same throughout the country, which created a distortion that harmed provinces with lower tax pressure. Mercado Libre's new policy breaks with that logic and promotes tax competition. Those jurisdictions that ease the burden on the private sector will be more attractive and competitive.
The measure is a market signal. Provinces that maintain more rational structures will be able to attract more entrepreneurs, businesses, and SMEs. Meanwhile, those that overburden taxpayers, such as Córdoba, will see how selling from their territory becomes more expensive and less convenient.

Provinces with lower IIBB win
Those jurisdictions with lower IIBB rates will benefit. This difference rewards provinces that understand that fewer taxes mean more investment, more activity, and more employment.
The decision highlights the gap between those who promote development and those who use tax pressure to finance inefficient structures. In a context of high informality and declining consumption, charging fewer taxes is a key tool to boost the domestic market. Mercado Libre understands this.

This new system reinforces the logic of fiscal responsibility. Provinces not only compete for revenue sharing, they must also compete to attract investment and talent. Reducing taxes is no longer just a slogan: it is a condition for participating on equal terms within the digital market.

Córdoba: more taxes, less competitiveness
Córdoba will be one of the three provinces where the platform's commissions will increase. This is a direct consequence of the weight of the provincial IIBB. Selling from Córdoba will now be more expensive, not because of Mercado Libre, but because of the decisions of the provincial government.
For years, Córdoba maintained a rigid, costly, and not very business-friendly tax structure. That policy is now becoming visible. Instead of stimulating growth and local production, entrepreneurs are punished with more taxes and higher costs.
This change in rules may be an opportunity to review fiscal policies. Córdoba should consider whether it wants to remain one of the most expensive provinces for production. Competition between jurisdictions is no longer abstract: it is now reflected in each business's digital invoice.

How is the commission calculated and which address is used?
The commission amount will depend on the tax address of the seller declared on the platform. For monotributistas or registered taxpayers, the address registered in ARCA will be used. If you need to update it, you must upload the corresponding certificate from your profile.
In the case of end consumers, the address provided in the user account will be used. To modify it, you must contact the platform with your ID. This step is key, as it can change the applicable charge according to the registered province.
The system will reward those who operate from provinces with lower tax pressure. It will also push each jurisdiction to be accountable for its tax policy. In a federal country, each province assuming the real cost of its tax voracity is a sign of institutional maturity.
