IO Interactive celebrated the fifth anniversary of Hitman 3 with a key announcement for the community:starting February 3, Hitman: World of Assassination will feature cross-progression across more than ten platforms. The new feature will allow players to keep levels, achievements, and unlocks regardless of the device they use, marking a deep change in how Agent 47's progress is managed.
The measure responds to one of the long-standing demands from players, especially from those who alternate between console and PC or who have followed the evolution of the trilogy across different hardware generations. With this update, IO Interactive seeks to consolidate the saga under a unified and more flexible experience.
How cross-progression will work
Cross-progression will allow players to synchronize their progress on every platform where they own the game. To do this, it will be mandatory to use an IO Interactive account, which will also receive a comprehensive update in design and navigation.

When logging in, each user will have to choose a primary platform, which will be the reference for global progress. From that moment on, any other version of the game will automatically recognize the levels, achievements, and unlocks associated with that account, preventing duplication or loss of content.
This system is being implemented after the arrival of Hitman: World of Assassination on Nintendo Switch 2 and in a context where the studio aims to strengthen its ecosystem before tackling new releases.
End of the previous system and mandatory changes
The arrival of cross-progression entails the definitive closure of the old "carryover" system, which allowed players to transfer progress from Hitman 2 to Hitman 3. IO Interactive confirmed that this option will no longer be available as of February 3.
The company recommended that those who still have not completed that migration should finish the process before the deadline, since afterward all progress will be linked exclusively to Hitman: World of Assassination.
According to the studio, the removal of the previous system aims to reduce the confusion caused by multiple transfers and separate accounts, an issue that led to complaints about lost progress and synchronization errors in the past.
Impact on the community and advantages of the new system

For the community, cross-progression represents a concrete improvement in accessibility and convenience. The new framework especially benefits players who use different devices depending on the context, allowing them to continue the same playthrough without technical restrictions.
In addition, the unification of progress simplifies the tracking of challenges, mastery levels, and unlocks, which is one of the pillars of Hitman's design. This reinforces the idea of World of Assassination as a living platform and not just as a compilation of titles.
The future of Hitman and the studio's upcoming projects
The announcement comes as expectations grow for 007 First Light, IO Interactive's next project, scheduled for May. Although the studio has not confirmed new Hitman games in the short term, it has assured that its immediate priority will be to guarantee the stability of the cross-progression system and move forward with the implementation of the cooperative mode.
The decision to strengthen the infrastructure before expanding the franchise suggests a strategy focused on consolidating in the long term one of the most recognized sagas in modern stealth.
