'I missed it': Bryan Cranston returns as Hal in 'Malcolm in the Middle'
Bryan Cranston has confirmed the return of Malcolm in the Middle. The original cast is coming back, and new faces are joining
The return of "Malcolm in the Middle" is already a fact, and Bryan Cranston confirmed it with enthusiasm. The actor revealed what it meant for him to step back into Hal's shoes after almost two decades since the original ending.
Disney+ is producing a miniseries with much of the original cast and new additions. Filming wrapped in May and promises a renewed dose of the classic family chaos that defined an entire generation.

"I missed it": Bryan Cranston returns as Hal
In a conversation with People, Cranston stated that reconnecting with his character was "comforting." "He's a sweet, charming man... an adorable guy," the actor said during an event in Los Angeles.
He also highlighted the excitement of seeing the whole family reunited on set: "It was great." The experience reconnected him with the spirit of the series that, between 2000 and 2006, became a true cultural phenomenon.
What is the new series about?
It is a four-episode miniseries produced by 20th Television and New Regency for Disney+. It is directed by Ken Kwapis and written by Linwood Boomer, creator of the original series.

The story shows Malcolm and his daughter being drawn in when Hal and Lois invite them to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary.
The return of the original cast
Several familiar faces return:
- Bryan Cranston as Hal
- Jane Kaczmarek as Lois
- Frankie Muniz as Malcolm
- Christopher Masterson as Francis
- Justin Berfield as Reese

The only one absent will be Erik Per Sullivan, who played Dewey. In his place will be Caleb Ellsworth-Clark, known for his roles in Fargo and The Expanse.
New faces in the Wilkerson family
The series also adds new characters:
- Keeley Karsten will play Leah, Malcolm's daughter
- Kiana Madeira will play Tristan, her girlfriend
- Anthony Timpano will take on the role of Jamie
- Vaughan Murrae will play Kelly, Hal and Lois's new son

Leah has been described as ironic, impulsive, and intelligent, but with greater emotional sensitivity than her father. Jamie, the youngest introduced in the fourth season, will be played by a new actor. Meanwhile, Kelly, hinted at in the 2006 finale, is now more mature and self-sufficient.
Frankie Muniz prepares with a marathon
Muniz shared a photo on his social media from the set with Cranston and Kaczmarek: "It's always good to have Mom and Dad close." He also said that he rewatched the original series from the first episode to get back into character.
"I have 151 episodes to catch up on before I start filming," he posted on X. The production, initially planned as a movie, was converted into a miniseries by Disney's decision.

When does it premiere?
For now, there is no official premiere date, but filming has already finished in Vancouver. Expectations are high, and depending on the reception, the story could continue.
"It wraps up the story in a satisfying way," Muniz said, although he left the door open for more episodes.
