The International Monetary Fund (IMF) expressed its support for the national government this Tuesday following the adverse result in the Buenos Aires elections.
Through a statement, the organization's Director of Communications, Julie Kozack, stated that the IMF continues "to work closely" with Argentine authorities in the implementation of the current economic program, thus supporting the measures adopted by the administration of Javier Milei.
"IMF staff are closely engaged with Argentine authorities in the implementation of their program to strengthen stability and improve the country's growth prospects", Kozack said in a post on the social network X.

In the same vein, she added: "We support their commitment to ensuring the sustainability of the program's exchange rate and monetary framework, as well as their continued adherence to the fiscal anchor and the comprehensive deregulation agenda".
The statements mark the first official reaction from the international organization after the elections in the province of Buenos Aires, where the ruling party was unable to prevail. So far, the Fund had avoided making statements, despite media inquiries, even in the face of the government's recent decision to intervene in the market to contain the dollar's exchange rate within the planned floating bands.
