Amid the record private consumption under the Government of Javier Milei, the shopping boom made abroad has already had a strong impact on the cargo movement at Ezeiza airport.
The volume of packages entering the country through the courier system reached unprecedented levels and the growth was such that the country's most important airport is preparing a new terminal specifically to handle this type of shipment.
During August, 2.9 million kilos of merchandise entered through Ezeiza via the courier system, according to data from Aeropuertos Argentina. This figure represents an increase of 161% compared to the same month last year, when 1.1 million kilos had entered.
Purchases from abroad
The increase in movement reflects the strong growth in purchases made abroad. At Ezeiza, one of the main images of this phenomenon is the accumulation of packages linked to the rise in international shipments under the courier and door-to-door modalities.
The growth is also evident when analyzing the value of purchases. In July, they reached USD 108 million, according to a report by Analytica. Although this record showed moderation compared to previous months, the accumulated volume remained high.
Between January and July 2026, imports made through this type of shipment reached USD 751 million. This result represents an increase of 83.9% year-on-year and leaves the accumulated total just USD 143 million short of the total imported during 2025.

Ezeiza prepares an exclusive terminal for packages
The growth in merchandise volume has also created the need to expand the infrastructure dedicated to processing shipments. In this context, Ezeiza is preparing to inaugurate a terminal exclusively to concentrate the operation of this type of imports.
The inauguration of the Unique Courier Terminal (TUC) is scheduled for November, a new building developed by Aeropuertos Argentina Cargas. The facility will be aimed at centralizing the import operation of shipments made via courier and door-to-door.
The project was announced in January 2025, following an agreement between Aeropuertos Argentina, the National Airports System Regulatory Agency (ORSNA), the General Customs Directorate (DGA), and the Argentine Chamber of International Express Service Providers (CAPSIA).
The new terminal will allow the operation to be moved to a specific building and expand the available space for handling packages. The goal will be to improve the organization and distribution of goods and accelerate the processing of shipments in light of the significant increase recorded in recent months.
Thus, the movement of packages at Ezeiza has become a clear example of the shopping boom abroad, in a context of record private consumption in Argentina.
