Inter Miami resumed activity in Major League Soccer with a victory over Chicago Fire, although the match had an unexpected start due to an unusual mistake by Rocco Ríos Novo.

At 18 minutes into the first half, the goalkeeper received a back pass from defender Ian Fray during a buildup from the back. Pressured by the arrival of forward Robert Lewandowski, he attempted to clear it first time, but missed the shot and the ball slowly ended up entering his own goal, making it 1-0 for the visitors.

After the unfortunate incident, both Ian Fray and Brazilian defender Micael quickly approached to support the goalkeeper, who was visibly affected by the error.

Despite the psychological blow, Inter Miami managed to react and turned the score around to secure an important victory of 3-2 in their return to the local tournament.

The American team faced the match without Lionel Messi or Rodrigo De Paul, who began their vacation after playing in the final of the 2026 World Cup, where the Argentine National Team lost to Spain.

The absence of two of their key players forced the team to present an alternative lineup for the restart of the season in MLS.

The match also marked the official debut of Robert Lewandowski in the Chicago Fire jersey, following his departure from Barcelona after the World Cup.

Although the Polish forward did not score, he was the one who pressured Ríos Novo in the play that ended with the own goal, an action that quickly went viral on social media.
