The Argentine Army initiated a judicial investigation after receiving an anonymous email claiming to have access to personal data of approximately 50,000 members of the institution.

This warning, which raised alarms at various levels of the State, led to a formal complaint filed on May 8 with the Cybercrime Division of the Argentine Federal Police.

According to official sources, the anonymous message claimed to possess sensitive information related to military personnel. As a result, a judicial investigation was launched, and preventive measures were implemented to protect the administrative systems.

Despite the seriousness of the email's content, no evidence was attached to confirm the threat's veracity, although the case's dissemination on social media, especially on the platform X, caused concern among experts and entities dedicated to cybersecurity.

The allegedly compromised data would include administrative information such as full names, ID numbers, records of assigned destinations, decorations, titles, and family data. The Army clarified that most of this information is contained in files that, in many cases, are publicly accessible. Additionally, they emphasized that no cyberattacks were detected on sensitive operating systems or the critical infrastructure of the force.

The case was escalated to various areas of the national Government. The Ministry of Defense, led by Luis Petri, and the Ministry of Security, headed by Patricia Bullrich, are closely monitoring the progress of the file. The State Intelligence Secretariat (SIDE), under the direction of Sergio Neiffert, whose Cybersecurity area is collaborating with the technical analysis of possible intrusion vectors, is also involved.

In parallel to the judicial case, the Army is working on expanding the complaint with new elements that could provide clarity on what happened. The main objective is to determine whether a breach actually occurred, identify possible perpetrators, and assess the degree of exposure of the compromised information.

The investigation, which is under the jurisdiction of the Federal Justice, continues its course, and it is expected that in the coming days, advances will emerge that provide greater clarity to the case.

This episode highlights the growing relevance of cybersecurity within strategic institutions like the Armed Forces, where the protection of administrative and operational data is essential.
