Apple is already working on the second generation of the iPhone Air, the ultra-thin model that debuted in 2025 and aims to offer a lighter and more attractive alternative within the iPhone family. According to reports, the new device is expected to arrive in 2027 and will include significant improvements in two of the most criticized aspects by users.
The Cupertino company is also advancing with a deep restructuring of its launch calendar, a strategy that would completely change the way it presents new iPhones and aims to compete more directly with manufacturers like Samsung.

What the new second-generation iPhone Air will be like
According to information published by Bloomberg, Apple is developing the project internally under the codename V62, which is currently in an advanced testing phase.
The main change would be the addition of a second rear camera, intended for ultra-wide-angle photography. The lack of a more complete photographic system was one of the most frequent criticisms received by the current model.
Despite this improvement, the new iPhone Air would maintain the overall design of the generation launched in September 2025.

The battery will be one of the focuses of the update
Another aspect that Apple seeks to improve is battery life. According to the report, engineers are working to offer greater battery duration, although it is still unclear whether the improvement will come from a higher-capacity battery or through energy efficiency enhancements.
The extreme thinness of the device limits the available space for internal components, one of the main challenges of this type of design.

Apple will change its launch strategy
The new iPhone Air will also be part of a broader reorganization within Apple's smartphone business.
Traditionally, the company presents the entire iPhone family in September. However, that will begin to change.
According to Bloomberg, the fall lineup will be reserved for premium models:
iPhone 18 Pro.
