Ishiba Shigeru, Prime Minister of Japan, criticized Khamenei's regime and stated that every effort must be made to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon

At a press conference held in Calgary, Canada, on Tuesday, Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba emphasized the importance of diplomacy in light of rising tensions in the Middle East, especially between Israel and Iran.

After the Group of Seven (G7) summit, Ishiba reaffirmed that “Iran must never be allowed to develop nuclear weapons” and highlighted the need to solve this issue through dialogue. G7 leaders agreed that the Iranian nuclear problem must be addressed through diplomatic means.

Regarding the situation in the Gaza Strip, Ishiba expressed his intention to continue urging all parties involved to return to the negotiating table to achieve a ceasefire.

As for the war in Ukraine, the Japanese prime minister stressed the importance of G7 unity to achieve a just and lasting peace, underscoring that the peace process will have an impact on the international order.

He also emphasized the need to establish a framework to prevent future invasions, while reaffirming Japan's commitment to sanctions against Russia and support for Ukraine.

Ishiba expressed his concern about the growing military ties between Russia and North Korea, and noted that cooperation between Russia and China is also troubling, as it could be strengthening Moscow's ability to continue its offensive in Ukraine.

In this regard, he stressed the importance of the G7 working together with the Indo-Pacific region to address common challenges related to China.

During the summit, Ishiba held bilateral meetings with the leaders of six countries, which, according to him, allowed for the building of personal relationships of trust. He said that Japan will continue to make diplomatic efforts to deepen cooperation with its allies and like-minded countries in order to safeguard its independence, its peace, and protect its population.

On the economic front, Ishiba addressed negotiations with the United States regarding tariff measures. He stated that active coordination will be maintained to reach an agreement that protects Japan's national interests and benefits both nations.

Regarding domestic politics, when asked about the possibility of the opposition submitting a motion of censure against his cabinet, Ishiba ruled out dissolving the House of Representatives during the current session of the Diet, which ends on Sunday. He stated that he will do everything possible to ensure that the government continues to function effectively and can respond to urgent issues.
