Javier Milei awarded the 'Honoris Causa' doctorate to Professor Huerta de Soto
He was highly awarded recently, but today Javier Milei, personally at ESEADE, recognized him with a doctorate
President Javier Milei led the awarding of the Doctorate Honoris Causa to the Spanish economist Jesús Huerta de Soto, the leading exponent of global anarcho-capitalism. The ceremony held this Thursday, April 24, 2025, on a night full of political and cultural symbolism, President Javier Milei appeared at the Higher School of Economics and Business Administration (ESEADE) to personally present the Doctorate Honoris Causa to the distinguished Spanish professor Jesús Huerta de Soto, a central figure of the Austrian School of Economics and the world's leading reference in anarcho-capitalism.
This type of recognition—such as the Honoris Causa—is awarded to eminent personalities who have made exceptional contributions in their field without the need for a formal career within the awarding institution. In this case, it not only honors the career of the Spanish academic but also the deep alignment between his philosophical vision and the libertarian ideals of the current Argentine president.

The event is part of a series of tributes to Professor Huerta de Soto, who is visiting Argentina and has also been recognized with the Hispanic American Youth Award for Freedom, granted by the Austrian Libertarian Association, in a previous ceremony also held at ESEADE. This recognition was presented by Alfonso Muñoz Ruiz and Miguel Ángel Alonso Cancino, in the presence of prominent economists and students.
Huerta de Soto, meanwhile, returned the gesture with words of admiration for the Argentine president: "The main protagonist of the explosion of freedom ideas worldwide is Javier Milei. He is a true hero of freedom," he stated. During an interview on the A24 channel with Antonio Laje, which Milei unexpectedly interrupted, the Spanish economist elaborated: "Perhaps in Argentina they don't realize it, but we are experiencing a rebirth of liberal ideas thanks to their president."

To understand the dimension of this event, it is necessary to remember the intellectual trajectory of Huerta de Soto: doctor in Law and Economic Sciences, with an MBA from Stanford—thanks to a scholarship from the Bank of Spain—, he is the author of essential works such as Money, Bank Credit, and Economic Cycles and Socialism, Economic Calculation and Entrepreneurial Function. Additionally, he directs an influential Master's in Economics of the Austrian School, through which he has trained thousands of young people worldwide.
