Just two days before the elections, President Javier Milei held a decisive meeting with JP Morgan Chase & Co. CEO Jamie Dimon, one of the most influential men in the global financial system. The event took place at the impressive National Museum of Decorative Arts, where an exclusive dinner was held in honor of the JP Morgan International Council.

The president was accompanied by the Minister of Economy, Luis Caputo, and the Secretary of Finance, Pablo Quirno, who will be appointed as foreign minister in the coming days. Meanwhile, representing the American institution, in addition to Dimon, Facundo Gómez Minujín and Alfonso Eyzaguirre participated, both key figures in the bank's regional operations.

During the dinner, Milei delivered a forceful speech, after which he left the venue shortly after 8:00 p.m. The main focus of the day was to strengthen ties with one of the most powerful financial institutions on the planet, in a context where the national government seeks to consolidate external support and attract strategic investments.

Luis Caputo himself had held a private meeting with Dimon hours earlier, the details of which were not disclosed, although sources close to the Ministry of Economy indicated that the focus was on negotiations to secure financial support in the face of local market volatility in recent weeks.

The significance of JP Morgan in the current Argentine economic framework is evident. The government recently announced that the institution will assist in the buyback of sovereign debt in foreign currency, an operation that will include the participation of international organizations.

Additionally, the American bank played an active role in the U.S. Treasury's efforts to contain the dollar's surge and is part of discussions regarding a USD 20 billion financial support package, which would be added to the USD 20 billion swap signed with the U.S. Treasury. Current negotiations revolve around the guarantees that Argentina could offer to access the credit.

Parallel to the institutional visit, Dimon hosted an honorary cocktail at the Teatro Colón, where he brought together a select group of business leaders, political figures, and international personalities. Among the attendees were former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Mercado Libre founder Marcos Galperín, IRSA Group President Eduardo Elsztain, former President Mauricio Macri, and Emirati businessman Khaldoon Al Mubarak, a key figure in the government of the United Arab Emirates.

Vladimir Werning, Vice President of the Central Bank, and José Luis Daza, Secretary of Economic Planning, also participated, both representing the Argentine economic team, while Caputo accompanied Milei in Rosario during the closing campaign event of La Libertad Avanza.

The local host, Facundo Gómez Minujín, President of JP Morgan Argentina, also welcomed the bank's main regional authorities: Daniel Pinto (Global Vice President), Andrés Errázuriz (Chile), Felipe García Moreno (Mexico), Ángela Hurtado (Colombia), Lisandro Miguens (Regional Capital Markets), and Cassiana Fernández (Research Latam).

Meanwhile, the international delegation included Amin Nasser (Saudi Aramco); Marcelo Noronha and Luiz Carlos Trabuco Cappi (Bradesco, Brazil); Tarciana Medeiros (Banco do Brasil); Guilherme Johannpeter (Gerdau); Carlos de Moraes Toledo Neto (Aurok); Iván Arriagada (Antofagasta); Eduardo Chadwick and Bernardo Larraín (Colbún); Enrique Ostalé (Falabella); Jorge Rojas Mota Velasco and Luis Cervantes Legorreta (General Atlantic); Stanley Motta (Copa); and Eduardo Hochschild (Hochschild Mining).

Jamie Dimon, the banker who trusts Milei

Jamie Dimon, born in New York in 1956, is considered one of the most respected strategists on Wall Street. He graduated from Tufts University and Harvard Business School, and built his career at American Express, Travelers Group, and Citigroup. In 2004, he became director of Bank One, and after its merger with JP Morgan Chase, he became CEO of the merged entity.

During the 2008 crisis, he led the bank with prudence and determination, avoiding the collapse that affected much of the financial system. Under his leadership, JP Morgan expanded operations, incorporated technological innovation, and consolidated its profitability. His visit to Argentina, and in particular his meeting with Milei, are interpreted in international financial circles as a sign of confidence in the libertarian economic program and the institutional stability promoted by the current government.
