It's been over a month since the death of Miguel Ángel Russo. The renowned coach, the last manager to win the Copa Libertadores with Boca, passed away on October 8 and left a deep mark on Argentine football. Among the many tributes paid to him, one of the most moving took place on Sunday the 18th of the same month, when, before the match between Xeneize and Belgrano, a jersey bearing his name was sent to the sky along with blue and yellow balloons from La Bombonera.
However, almost 24 days after that touching scene, a surprising piece of news shocked everyone. Uruguayan journalist Pepe Temperán revealed on his social media that the tribute jersey appeared in Cañada Nieto, a small rural town in the department of Soriano, Uruguay.
"Incredible. From Boca to Soriano, Uruguay. Miguel Russo's jersey landed in the lands of Cañada Nieto, Soriano. A local resident took a photo of the jersey's discovery on Uruguayan soil," Temperán posted on his X account (formerly Twitter), sharing the message with an image showing the deflated balloons next to the jersey with the inscription "1956 - infinity."
La camiseta fue encontrada por un productor rural de Uruguay
Later, the commentator shared a second post, this time showing the jersey hanging on the door of a tractor. There, he also revealed who had found it: "A young rural producer from Soriano working in the field came across something shining; it was the tribute jersey to Russo that Boca Jrs sent to the sky in memory of the recently deceased former coach," he explained.
The exact location where the garment was found is on Route 96, 21 kilometers (13 miles) southeast of Dolores and 19 kilometers (12 miles) northwest of its intersection with Route 19. According to data from Uruguay's National Institute of Statistics, Cañada Nieto has 421 inhabitants (2023 Census) and is located about 179 kilometers (111 miles) from the City of Buenos Aires, a journey that takes just over four hours by car.
La camiseta de Boca voló cerca de 170 kilómetros
According to the journalist himself, the young Uruguayan is currently considering what the future of the jersey will be. One of the options he is weighing is returning it to Boca and taking it to Edinson Cavani, although nothing has been confirmed yet.
