How the play that ended in tragedy unfolded
The episode that triggered the tragedy occurred during the match between Tenerife and Andorra, when the final minutes were being played. De Miguel attempted to control a long ball in the central area of the field, but Owono came out of his area to clear it and ended up colliding with his knee against the chest of the attacker.
The forward fell unconscious on the grass and quickly the players from both teams called for medical assistance. The medical staff worked for several minutes to stabilize him and managed to revive him after he suffered a cardiac arrest. He was subsequently transported by ambulance to the hospital, where he was admitted to intensive care and, hours later, passed away.
Amid the shock, Andorra publicly expressed its support for the family of the footballer and the Canary institution. Additionally, they offered psychological assistance to the team members and coaching staff affected by what happened. As part of the measures taken after the tragedy, the Andorran team held a minute of silence before one of their training sessions, from which Owono did not participate.
