Judge Julieta Makintach was removed from her position after being found responsible for the scandal that erupted during the trial over Diego Maradona's death. The magistrate, who had presided over the proceedings against seven of the eight defendants, became the center of controversy when it was revealed that she had authorized the filming of scenes from the trial for the documentary miniseries "Justicia Divina", in which she was even portrayed as a central figure. The discovery led to the annulment of the trial.
It should be noted that Makintach was not present at the hearing where her removal was announced. A jury composed of judges, legislators, and lawyers from Buenos Aires Province decided not only to remove the magistrate, but also to disqualify her from holding any judicial office. With this decision, the proceedings must restart from scratch. The new date set is March 17, 2026, when a different court will once again address the case.
Makintach's controversies
The disciplinary file against Makintach was opened on Thursday, November 6, when she was charged with incompetence and negligence, breach of official duties, manifest bias, and abuse of authority, among other accusations.
