The jury against Julieta Makintach added a key day on Wednesday, November 12, marked by the testimony of Gianinna Maradona. The daughter of Diego Maradona testified amid a strong emotional burden, according to Fernando Burlando in an interview on DDM (América).
The attorney described a tense and painful situation, shaped by the recent scandal involving the magistrate, who is accused of promoting a documentary about the trial over Maradona's death.
El abogado de Dalma y Giannina Maradona no dudó en señalar que lo ocurrido con Diego fue un “asesinato”
"It was very distressing": Burlando spoke about Gianinna's testimony
Burlando stated that what moved him the most was seeing Gianinna Maradona break down during her testimony. "She spent more time pulling herself together in the Senate bathroom than testifying," he recounted, describing what happened as a clear case of revictimization.
The attorney emphasized that the young woman spoke about her anguish and uncertainty over the possibility that her father might not receive the justice he deserves. He also revealed that Makintach had denied to Gianinna the existence of the documentary, even "swearing on her children" that it was all a lie.
"It's a wound that won't heal": the reaction after the testimony
Burlando explained that, after testifying, Gianinna suffered a severe emotional crisis that lasted more than fifteen minutes. "She was so expressive that everyone listened alertly," he said indignantly, noting that both she and Dalma Maradona once again felt hurt by the magistrate's actions.
He also described Makintach as "intimidated" during the hearing, very different from the attitude she had shown days earlier. "It seems she had some respect," he concluded.
The Makintach case: resignation amid scandal
Judge Julieta Makintach was removed from the trial over Diego Maradona's death after it was proven that she promoted the filming of a documentary in which she appeared as the main character. According to the trailer, she allegedly allowed recordings of her activity while presiding over the proceedings.
