Keanu Reeves was blunt about the script for 'Constantine 2': 'It seems like a Marvel one...'
Reeves wants a deep and dark story, but the studio is betting on more Marvel-style action
The actor is ready to return as John Constantine, but made it clear that he doesn't approve of the direction of the new script for "Constantine 2".
Keanu Reeves seeks to maintain the dark and reflective essence that made the first film a cult classic.

What's happening with the Constantine sequel?
Warner Bros. confirmed the project in 2022, but since then there have been few updates. The return of Keanu Reeves, Francis Lawrence, and Peter Stormare excited fans, but everything was put on hold.
According to Stormare, the sequel is stalled due to creative differences between the studio and the team led by Reeves.
The script doesn't convince Keanu
"Keanu isn't happy with the scripts or the direction the studio is taking…," Stormare revealed. The actor doesn't want Constantine 2 to become a typical action movie.

Instead, he seeks a deeper approach, true to the dark and philosophical tone of the original 2005 film.
Reeves is committed to Constantine's original identity
The actor's intention is clear: to avoid a Marvel-style transformation, where explosions and effects abound. He wants a story with narrative weight, not just gunfire and CGI.

"He wants something that keeps the essence of the character," Stormare explained, who would also return as Satan.
No more super-action: that's what John Wick is for
Reeves already has room for unrestrained action with John Wick. In Constantine, he is committed to a supernatural thriller with substance and emotional depth.
The question now is whether Warner is willing to support that vision or will insist on turning the sequel into just another blockbuster.
