Kicillof's Government Seeks to Censor Media Outlets That Criticize It.
The Buenos Aires government wants to silence media outlets that disseminate information not aligned with the official discourse.
The ultra-Kirchnerist government of Axel Kicillof seeks to silence the independent press through the sending of legal notices and judicial threats, in a context of growing insecurity and conflicts with the Buenos Aires Police.
The Buenos Aires administration, led by the inept Kicillof, launched an offensive against journalism after sending legal notices to independent media that disseminate information not aligned with the official discourse.
One of the most recent cases is that of "Master News", a media outlet from the interior of Buenos Aires that published an article titled "Strong protest by the Buenos Aires police against Kicillof's government".
In response, the provincial Ministry of Security, led by Javier Alonso, close to Kicillof, sent a legal notice to the media and its director, Ricardo Novo, demanding that the content be modified under the threat of legal actions.

The document, signed by the General Auditor of Internal Affairs, Darío Díaz, stated that the police force's demonstrations had been carried out by a "small group of people without representation". However, the reality on the streets showed a different situation.
In addition to the 18 officers dismissed and criminally charged by the Ministry for alleged "sedition crimes", public intimidation, and breach of duties, numerous active and retired agents joined the protests and staged a sit-in at Puente 12, in La Matanza.
The most alarming aspect of this scenario is the intention of Kicillof's Kirchnerist government to censor the independent media that cover the harsh reality in the Province.
The use of legal notices and legal threats against journalists and media outlets undermines freedom of expression, creating a climate of censorship in the journalistic sphere of the province.
The erosion of Kicillof's image could be one of the factors behind this strategy. Amid an unprecedented security crisis and deep dissatisfaction within the security forces due to low salaries, his administration is going through a critical moment.

Adding to this is the recent request by President Javier Milei for Kicillof to resign, even suggesting the possibility of intervening in the province in the face of the advance of organized crime.
The police protest
The peaceful police protest that caused this controversy is not an isolated episode. The province of Buenos Aires is experiencing an increasingly severe security crisis, with a rise in violent crimes that has caused great indignation in society.
The protest by the Buenos Aires Police officers, which included a siren blast and a gathering at the Shell service station in Ituzaingó, was mainly motivated by the lack of improvements in salaries and working conditions.
In response, the Kirchnerist government decided to dismiss eighteen officers and file criminal charges against them, arguing that the current regulations prohibit this type of demonstration within the security forces.
Independent journalism plays an essential role in any democratic system. The actions of the Buenos Aires government against media like Master News constitute a serious attack on press freedom and must be condemned by all those who claim to defend democratic values.
