Kicillof's government wants to prohibit two people from riding on the same motorcycle.

According to the Buenos Aires Security Minister, the goal is 'to reduce the number of crimes committed.'

The Government of Axel Kicillof is considering the possibility of implementing a measure that prohibits two people from riding on the same motorcycle, in order to "reduce the number of crimes committed" under this modality. This was announced by the Security Minister of the province of Buenos Aires, Javier Alonso, during a press conference.

The Kirchnerist official explained that the measure would be implemented in a focused manner, that is, by specific areas, at certain times, and only "at the request of the mayors". Alonso stated that it would not be a general rule, but a tool available for municipalities that request it.

"It's a sensitive measure, which is why we believe the mayor should request it. There is a law that allows us to take that measure as the Ministry of Security," he stated.

The proposal is included within the well-known "Antimotochorros" Law, enacted in 2019, which also requires that the vehicle's license plate be visible both on the helmet and the driver's vest. On this point, Alonso acknowledged that currently, that law is not being properly enforced.

Although the initiative is mainly aimed at the Buenos Aires Conurbano, its application could be extended to the 135 municipalities of the province if it is decided to move forward with it.

During the same conference, the minister also presented statistics related to security. He pointed out that in the first quarter of the year, 234 homicides were recorded, compared to 270 in the same period in 2024, which would imply a 13% decrease.

Despite the fact that this figure shows the serious security crisis in the province, which is far from over, Alonso celebrated it: "This would be progress in terms of security policy and shared efforts. It has to do with the joint work we do with each of the 135 local governments, with the federal justice and the provincial justice."

The internal conflict with Cristina

Beyond the decisions in terms of security, Governor Axel Kicillof received a significant political gesture this Sunday from Cristina Fernández de Kirchner. Amid internal tensions within Peronism over the debate on a possible electoral split in the province of Buenos Aires, the former president ordered the legislative blocs that respond to her to halt the progress of the bill that promoted concurrent elections.

"Today, April 14, I still believe, along with other comrades, that in the next parliamentary elections in the PBA, both national and provincial, the best for the people of Buenos Aires in general, and for Peronism in particular, is to vote only once, on October 26," Cristina expressed in a message that served as an introduction and positioning on the issue.

The former president justified her stance by pointing out that holding two elections with a difference of just six weeks, while at the same time allocating a considerable amount of public resources to carry out that split, "doesn't seem to be the most advisable."
