Insecurity strikes again in the Buenos Aires metropolitan area with a violent robbery attempt that ended in gunfire in La Matanza. A member of the Buenos Aires Police who was off-duty and accompanied by his family repelled the attack from a gang of armed criminals and shot one of them during an intense confrontation that took place in the town of González Catán.
The incident occurred on Friday night, around 9:15 PM, while a strong storm was hitting the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires. The police officer had arrived with his family at an ice cream shop located at the corner of Calderón de la Barca and Tinogasta when he was surprised by a car that blocked his path.
According to the reconstruction made by investigators, there were four criminals inside the vehicle. Two got out armed with the intention of committing the robbery, while the others remained in the car to facilitate the escape once the assault was carried out.
The sequence was recorded by security cameras in the area. The footage shows one of the criminals aiming at the driver. At that moment, the officer identified himself as a police officer and responded with his service weapon from inside the vehicle, initiating a gunfire exchange.
