A police officer shot one of four criminals who tried to rob him in La Matanza

Insecurity strikes again in the Buenos Aires metropolitan area with a violent robbery attempt that ended in gunfire in La Matanza. A member of the Buenos Aires Police who was off-duty and accompanied by his family repelled the attack from a gang of armed criminals and shot one of them during an intense confrontation that took place in the town of González Catán.

The incident occurred on Friday night, around 9:15 PM, while a strong storm was hitting the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires. The police officer had arrived with his family at an ice cream shop located at the corner of Calderón de la Barca and Tinogasta when he was surprised by a car that blocked his path.

According to the reconstruction made by investigators, there were four criminals inside the vehicle. Two got out armed with the intention of committing the robbery, while the others remained in the car to facilitate the escape once the assault was carried out.

The sequence was recorded by security cameras in the area. The footage shows one of the criminals aiming at the driver. At that moment, the officer identified himself as a police officer and responded with his service weapon from inside the vehicle, initiating a gunfire exchange.

During the shootout, the criminal carrying a revolver attempted to escape against traffic but was hit by one of the shots fired by the police officer and fell dead a few meters from the scene. Meanwhile, his three accomplices managed to flee in the car used to carry out the attack.

According to initial reports, the vehicle used by the gang had been reported stolen. Security forces are working to locate the three fugitives, who remain intensively sought.

Together with the body of the deceased criminal, forensic experts seized a revolver, which will undergo the necessary examinations. The police officer and his family members were unharmed despite the violence of the confrontation.

The investigation is under the jurisdiction of Prosecutor Diego Rulli, who ordered the preservation of the crime scene and mandated that the technical examinations be conducted by a federal force, as established by the current protocol for such cases.
