The case of Brenda, Morena, and Lara once again exposes the collapse of security in Buenos Aires Province

The nightmare began Friday night in La Matanza, when Brenda del Castillo (20), Morena Verdi (21), and Lara Morena Gutiérrez (15) were last seen getting into a white van. From that moment, nothing more was known about them until this Wednesday, Buenos Aires Police found three bodies in Florencio Varela.

The victims were found buried in the backyard of a house located at Chañar and Río Jachal. The scene was gruesome: one of the bodies showed signs of having been dismembered, and another had a bag over the head. The van they had gotten into was found set on fire, in a desperate attempt to destroy evidence.

Drug traffickers and human trafficking in Greater Buenos Aires

Kicillof's La Matanza: dismembered bodies, drug trafficking, and rampant insecurity

The investigation points to a drug trafficking network linked to the disappearance of the young women. Among the four detainees is an alleged Peruvian drug trafficker who operates in Villa 1-11-14. Once again, the province is shown as open ground for organized crime, where human trafficking, drug trafficking, and violence advance unchecked.

Security cameras and cell phone antennas made it possible to reconstruct the victims' last movements, but what can't be reconstructed is a provincial security system that is failing everywhere.

Kicillof and insecurity without answers

With this case, Greater Buenos Aires once again becomes synonymous with fear and impunity. While the families mourn Brenda, Morena, and Lara, Axel Kicillof seems unable to provide answers. The Buenos Aires Police, overwhelmed and questioned, appears more as part of the problem than the solution.

In Kicillof's province, drug traffickers move with total impunity, trafficking networks capture the most vulnerable, and insecurity strikes every corner of Buenos Aires territory. Three young women murdered and buried in a house are the brutal symbol of an administration that can't—or doesn't want to—restore order.
