During his tenure as Minister of Defense, the current leading Kirchnerist candidate for national deputy for the province of Buenos Aires, Jorge Taiana, participated in 2022 in the commemorative events for the 50th anniversary of the "Trelew Massacre," held on August 22 in Trelew, Chubut.
The presence of Taiana caused strong criticism due to the nature of the commemoration, which sought to honor members of left-wing terrorist groups responsible for violence and attacks during the 1970s.
The so-called "Trelew Massacre" took place during the military dictatorship known as the "Argentine Revolution," under the command of General Alejandro Agustín Lanusse, in a context of violence carried out by left-wing guerrilla organizations.

The event
On August 15, 1972, around 110 prisoners belonging to terrorist groups such as the People's Revolutionary Army (ERP), the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR), and Montoneros planned to escape from Rawson Prison in Chubut. However, the operation failed.
During the escape, the prisoners attacked the guards, murdering Gregorio Valenzuela with 13 machine gun shots and a shot to the head, and also killing Justino Galarraga and César Montenegro. Only six leaders managed to escape by hijacking a plane to Chile.
Meanwhile, the remaining 19 guerrillas arrived late at Trelew airport, where they surrendered by handing over their weapons to the Navy with the guarantee that their lives would be respected, although they were transferred to the Almirante Zar Naval Air Base, where 16 of them ended up being executed.

The victims of the massacre, commemorated by Kirchnerist candidate Taiana, were members of terrorist organizations that had committed kidnappings, attacks, and murders of civilians and security forces, which makes the commemoration a reprehensible act from an ethical and political standpoint.
Taiana's participation in the event meant direct support for the former terrorists. Instead of focusing on the victims of the violent actions of these organizations, the event paid tribute to the members of armed groups, of which Taiana himself was a part, seeking to vindicate the left-wing guerrillas of the 1970s.
