U de Chile's lawyer commented on the possible resolution: 'We weren't the organizers'
José Ramón Correa stated that the violent acts were the responsibility of the home team and criticized Independiente's lack of communication after the incidents
South American soccer made history due to the brutal violence that occurred in the stands of Estadio Libertadores de América during the match between Independiente and Universidad de Chile. Rojo supporters indiscriminately attacked blue fans, which led to the cancellation of the match byCONMEBOL. Now, the governing body must decide who advances to the quarterfinals and the corresponding sanctions.
In this regard, and in a conversation with La Tercera, José Ramón Correa, lawyer and director of Azul Azul, stated that U should not be punished: "I don't want to get into the details because the legal teams are working, but U shouldn't be eliminated. We weren't the organizing club," he said.
Correa added that he finds it difficult to imagine a visiting team being sanctioned for homicidal acts committed inside the stadium by the home crowd: "It would be very hard for me to think of a case where, for homicidal acts, the sanctioned team is the visiting team."

In addition, the jurist criticized Independiente's lack of solidarity after the events: "Up to this moment we haven't received a call. Maybe we have a different approach in Chile, but we all come together when there's a tragedy and set aside our differences. Those are good practices, those are the lines that shouldn't be crossed, but it seems that here the color of the chalk is different. I don't know…"
Meanwhile, Universidad de Chile's match against Everton de Viña del Mar, which was supposed to be played yesterday at Estadio Nacional, was postponed due to the delicate situation the university club is going through after the tragedy in Avellaneda.
