League of Legends will allow players to use WASD controls for the first time in 15 years.
Riot Games is preparing WASD controls in League of Legends to make it easier for new players to get started
After more than 15 years, League of Legends is preparing to change the way people play on PC. Riot Games will implement WASD controls, allowing players to move and attack without clicking on the screen.
This new feature aims to help novice players access the game more quickly without getting frustrated. It also promises to maintain the classic style for those who prefer traditional controls.

Why Riot decided to make the change
According to Paul Bellezza, many beginner players feel uncomfortable with click-based controls. This discourages those who might enjoy the game, so WASD will be an alternative option.
Dean "Riot Iksar" Ayala highlighted that the development was complex. Bugs and edge cases were fixed, such as unexpected movements from champions like Nunu during internal testing.
Balance and gameplay
Darcy "DashiJador" Ludington explained that the goal is for WASD to be intuitive without affecting balance. Harassing or chasing enemies will be easier, but no one will be required to change their setup to compete.

The system is designed to work smoothly for all champions, game modes, and attack speeds, while maintaining the essence of LoL.
Other game improvements
In addition to WASD, shortcuts and mouse settings will be updated. For the first time, players will be able to bind the left button without modifying files, and there will be a dynamic fixed camera that follows the cursor.

Riot plans to test the controls on the beta server first before rolling them out to normal and ranked matches, ensuring stability and balance.
