Levinas and Recalde clashed over Homo Argentum and Javier Milei's policies

The film's overwhelming success led to a debate on TN about culture, the State, and the president's decisions

The film Homo Argentum not only broke box office records, it also sparked discussions in the media and on social networks. Journalist Gabriel Levinas and professor and filmmaker Diego Recalde starred in a heated television clash on Solo una vuelta más (TN), where the tensions regarding the film's cultural and political impact were exposed.

An unprecedented box office phenomenon

The production directed by Mariano Cohn and Gastón Duprat, with Guillermo Francella as the lead, established itself as the major event in recent Argentine cinema.

In just five days, it surpassed 527,000 tickets sold, with historic milestones for the sector.

  • 73,886 viewers on its first day in 405 theaters.
  • 185,055 tickets sold on the second day.
  • 330,000 attendees in three days.
  • 527,879 accumulated viewers in five days.

These figures placed Homo Argentum among the most successful premieres in recent times, with the expectation of quickly surpassing other box office hits such as Mazel Tov by Adrián Suar. In addition, it positioned itself as the fourth most-watched national film in an opening and is already competing for a spot in the annual top 20.

The proposal, structured in 16 satirical vignettes, showcases different facets of Argentine idiosyncrasy and caused mixed reactions: from those who celebrate its biting perspective to sectors that question its social diagnosis. Even President Javier Milei publicly praised the film.

The clash on TN: accusations and politics at the table

On Diego Sehinkman's show, the debate escalated when Levinas accused Recalde of "wanting to appropriate" the meaning of Duprat and Cohn's work.

Levinas: "You're a plagiarist, you're stealing something that isn't yours."
Recalde: "On the contrary, I know them and they agree with me."

Recalde defended the incorrectness chosen by the directors, recalling his experience as a jury member at INCAA:

Recalde: "This type of script wouldn't pass the INCAA filter. They deliberately chose to venture into uncomfortable places."

The discussion shifted toward politics. Meanwhile, Levinas warned about "the danger of always confronting the same enemy," Recalde valued Javier Milei's decisions:

Recalde:  "He's the first president who has come to relinquish power. When you eliminate ministries or secretariats, you control words less."
