Salta Capital election results: La Libertad Avanza swept and defeated the ruling party

Kirchnerism and PRO were left far behind, ranking third and sixth respectively

In the legislative elections on May 11, 2025, in the province of Salta, the results marked a significant change in the local political landscape, with La Libertad Avanza (LLA), the space led nationally by President Javier Milei, achieving a resounding victory, especially in the Capital department, the district with the greatest electoral weight in the province.

With 90% of the polling stations counted, LLA swept with 35% of the votes in the category of provincial deputies. In second place was the official front led by Governor Gustavo Sáenz, with a five-point difference.

Meanwhile, in a shocking development, Kirchnerism and PRO were left third and sixth respectively, evidencing a marked decline of their traditional party structures in the region.

One of the most resounding victories was that of Roque Cornejo, La Libertad Avanza's candidate for the Senate for Capital, who led an outstanding performance that positions him as one of the most important emerging opposition figures in northern Argentina. This same candidate had been supported by the libertarian activist known as "Gordo Dan," who held a Fuerzas del Cielo event in the province prior to the elections.

Despite the setback in Capital, the officialdom managed to retain the majority of seats at the provincial level, which will allow it to maintain some governability. However, the rise of LLA implies a new balance of forces in the Legislature and anticipates a much more active and organized opposition in the coming years.

During the day, libertarian leaders reported irregularities in the conduct of the electoral act, mentioning power outages in schools, outdated voter rolls, and acts of clientelism. Nonetheless, the election proceeded normally in most cases and there was a citizen participation close to 60%.

This new electoral advance confirms the consolidation of La Libertad Avanza in Salta, where it had already obtained a resounding 58% in the 2023 presidential runoff. The result strengthens the national officialdom in a strategic district of the NOA and gives it momentum ahead of the national legislative elections in October 2025, where key positions in Congress will be defined.
