Bombshell: Manchester United has reactivated its interest in Dibu Martínez

After André Onana's poor start to the season and the elimination from the FA Cup against modest Grimsby, the Red Devils resumed negotiations for the World Cup-winning goalkeeper

A couple of weeks ago, Emiliano "Dibu" Martínez was linked with Manchester United, to the point that there was speculation about a farewell from the goalkeeper to Aston Villa fans in the last home match of the past season, from which he left in tears. However,  negotiations stalled due to the high salary of the Mar del Plata native.

However, the outlook changed with the poor start by the Red Devils in the 2025/26 campaign, with a defeat against Arsenal, a draw with Fulham, and a last-minute win over Burnley in the Premier League, in addition to the elimination in the second round of the FA Cup against Grimsby Town, a team from the fourth division of English football.

In that match, goalkeeper André Onana was heavily criticized. He was held responsible for a failed clearance on the second goal and for not saving any of the 13 penalties taken against him in the shootout that ended 12-11 in favor of the opponent.

Amid the crisis, sources such as Fabrizio Romano and The Sunconfirmed that United reactivated contacts for the world champion in recent hours. In addition, it was confirmed that there is already a personal agreement with the goalkeeper and only negotiations with Aston Villa remain.

Nevertheless, a problem arises that could derail everything: the transfer window in England closes this Monday, September 1 at 6:00 p.m. (local time), so there are just over 24 hours left to reach an agreement.

Meanwhile, United is not limiting itself solely to the Argentine goalkeeper. The English club has also started talks for Senne Lammens, a 23-year-old Belgian goalkeeper who plays for Royal Antwerp, as an alternative to strengthen the goal before the transfer window closes.

His current situation at Aston Villa

Meanwhile, Dibu has already seen action with Aston Villa at the start of this season. After serving a suspension in the first match against Newcastle, he returned in the 1-0 defeat to Brentford and was also drafted for the match against Crystal Palace on August 31.
