Maratea supported Milei and criticized previous governments: 'They screwed over the poor'

The influencer defended Milei's economic management and targeted those who used poverty for political purposes

In an interview with journalist Tomás Díaz Cueto on Laca stream, influencer Santiago Maratea openly supported the policies of President Javier Milei and backed the changes the leader is pushing in the Argentine economy."For me, what Milei is doing is very positive, he's making changes in the country that are necessary", he stated.

From his perspective, one of the national government's priorities is well established:  the fight against inflation. In that sense, Maratea highlighted a phrase from the president himself:"The best thing I can do for those in need is to eliminate inflation", and he didn't hesitate to agree: "He's right, dude. He's right about that".

"If he achieves it, he must be eternally remembered"

For Maratea, achieving a sustained reduction in inflation is no small goal. He considers it a structural debt that no other government has been able to solve."If he achieves it, he must be eternally remembered for having done an enormous, enormous, enormous good", he insisted, emphasizing the magnitude that achievement would have for the country.

The influencer also made a generalized criticism of previous administrations, accusing them of using the most vulnerable sectors for political and economic purposes:"There was a necessary rejection to lay the foundations that the governments that had been ruling us are crap and they don't care about those in need. They use them only to do business, which is the worst thing you can do".

He added forcefully:"If there's a hell, they're earning it", referring to the officials and leaders who, according to him, profited from poverty.

Criticism of the past, support for change

Maratea suggested that the change of government marked a break with old practices in Argentine politics, although he maintained that the cultural struggle is still ongoing: "That's it, the government changed. The cultural struggle continues and it's good that it continues".

In that context, the influencer valued the social rejection that has been caused toward the political management of welfare, clientelism, and the electoral use of resources intended for the most needy. However, he didn't delve into specific measures of the current government, nor did he address the social consequences of the ongoing adjustment.

Who will Maratea vote for?

During the conversation, Tomás Díaz Cueto asked him directly if he already knows who he will vote for in the upcoming legislative elections: "Do you know who you're going to vote for? In the legislative elections that seem presidential... Are you going to vote?" In a relaxed tone, Maratea replied: "Milei, I don't know who else. "Adorni" the journalist completed."Yes, Adorni, one hundred percent", he answered.

Buenos Aires legislative elections: no PASO and with electronic ballot

Next Sunday, May 18, the legislative elections will be held in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, in which the Buenos Aires Legislature will be partially renewed. This call will take place months before the national elections, as the head of Government Jorge Macri decided to split the local calendar to "discuss its own agenda".

As in the general elections scheduled for October 26, this electoral round will also not use the Simultaneous and Mandatory Open Primaries (PASO). Additionally, the City of Buenos Aires will once again implement the Single Electronic Ballot (BUE) system, used in previous elections.

With this outlook, media figures like Maratea are beginning to speak out publicly and take a stand in the new political scenario, while expectations grow about the impact these endorsements may have on the young and digitalized electorate.
