With the arrival of Miguel Ángel Russo at Boca, Mariano Herrón's future is in doubt

While final details are being arranged for the official arrival of Miguel Ángel Russo as the new coach of Boca, the squad will return to training, but Mariano Herrón will not be in charge, as he was during his previous interim periods; instead, they will be led by the team of fitness coaches.

Russo's arrival forces Herrón to make a key decision about his future. He has two possible paths: return to the Reserve team, a category he has managed since 2022 and temporarily left to take charge of the First Team; or leave the club permanently in search of an opportunity as head coach at another team.

This latter option seems the most likely, since Herrón himself is said to have expressed his desire to take on his first experience as a head coach. To do so, he will need to formally part ways with Boca and wait for a concrete offer.

With the first half of the year nearing its end, the former midfielder will need to solve his situation in the coming days, not only to embark on a new path but also to allow Boca to reorganize its structure in the Reserve team, which is currently under the interim management of Roberto Pompei.

For now, no club has approached him with a job offer, so Herrón will rejoin the youth team's training sessions, as they prepare to face Tigre in matchday 15 of the tournament, in which they have already secured a place in the round of 16.

Thus, Herrón's future remains uncertain. His continuity at Boca will depend on the opportunities that may arise in the short term. From the club's management, they would not put up obstacles if he decides to leave to start his career as a head coach at another club.

Herrón's numbers in the First Team

During his four stints as interim coach, Herrón managed 11 matches, recording five wins, three draws, and three losses. In his last spell, he failed to win and was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the Torneo Apertura against Independiente.
