Mauricio Macri admitted that Silvia Lospennato wanted to withdraw from the candidacy

Macri in an interview: 'Silvia called me crying, telling me 'I want to leave, enough, politics doesn't make sense' '

The internal dynamics of macrismo are once again exposed in public. The former president, Mauricio Macri, revealed the emotional collapse of his candidate for the legislative elections, Silvia Lospennato, who, overwhelmed by internal tensions and the adverse electoral landscape, wanted to leave politics. An intimate scene was uncovered that portrays the internal unrest of PRO and the tensions its leaders are experiencing. During a public intervention, Macri recounted that Lospennato called him in tears to tell him she wanted to leave politics.

"She called me crying, telling me 'I want to leave, enough, politics makes no sense'", Macri confessed with laughter and condescension, exposing the vulnerability of one of the main legislative figures of PRO. The account, far from being an act of empathy, exposed an intimacy that made Lospennato herself uncomfortable, who reacted at the moment:

"Yes, but stop telling that", she reproached visibly annoyed. Macri, however, continued: "Well, but that's human, that's human, Silvia, that's human. You felt... Then, of course, two hours later you were back to fight and struggle, because you're a warrior."

The scene, which quickly went viral, exposed not only the emotional side of the legislator but also a marked fracture within the party, where the leaders themselves acknowledge in private—and now also in public—the discouragement caused by electoral deterioration and the lack of firm leadership. Macri tried to close the account with a justification:

"No, because she's a warrior. It's true that she can't afford to have a moment... And the truth is that when one fights so much... from the darkness, they block her again." These words, far from reinforcing the image of internal leadership, confirm the exhaustion and tensions that a space that today finds neither cohesion nor clear direction is experiencing.

On May 18, the seats of 30 legislators will be renewed, who, since December, have been responsible for approving and modifying the laws applied in the Buenos Aires area. According to the consulting firm Opina Argentina, the displacement of PRO from the center of the Buenos Aires scene is confirmed. La Libertad Avanza (LLA), the space led nationally by President Javier Milei, positions itself as the force with the highest voting intention with 26.1%, relegating Kirchnerism to second place (25.7%) and leaving PRO—after almost twenty years of hegemony in the city—confined to third place with just 15.6% support.

The trend deepens in the individual evaluation of the pre-candidates: presidential spokesperson Manuel Adorni leads the preferences, clearly surpassing traditional PRO figures like the deputy Silvia Lospennato (15%) and the former head of government Horacio Rodríguez Larreta (12.1%), whose administrations, far from generating enthusiasm, seem to fade in the face of the advance of new libertarian leaders. Other names in the race, such as Ramiro Marra, Paula Oliveto, Yamil Santoro, or Lucille Levy, garner marginal support, with figures ranging between 0.1% and 4%.
