Emetur developed a strategic agenda in Asunción to consolidate the growing interest of the Paraguayan market in Mendoza

The Mendoza Government, through the Mendoza Tourism Board (Emetur), carried out an official mission in Asunción with the goal of strengthening the province's presence in one of the international markets that has grown the most in recent years. The delegation was led by Gabriela Testa, president of Emetur, and Cristina Mengarelli, director of Tourism Promotion for the organization, who participated in institutional meetings, sectoral gatherings, and exclusive presentations.

Paraguay has become a high-potential market for the province, both due to demand related to wine tourism and the remarkable growth of wedding tourism, a segment that generates a significant economic impact. According to Mendoza authorities, Paraguayan travelers highlight the ease of connection, the quality of tourism services, and the distinctive identity of Mendoza wine.

Diplomatic meetings and tourism cooperation agreements

During the mission, Testa and Mengarelli held a meeting with the Argentine ambassador to Paraguay, Guillermo Emilio Nielsen, with whom they analyzed destination positioning strategies and possible joint actions between both countries.

They also visited the National Secretariat of Tourism of the Government of Paraguay, where they were received by Andrés Ortiz, general director of Tourism Products. There, progress was made in developing a joint agenda aimed at promoting tourism exchange, strengthening communication between official agencies, and coordinating promotional activities to increase the flow of visitors.

"Vinos con Destino": a key platform for Mendoza wine tourism

One of the main events on the agenda was "Vinos con Destino: Argentine wine tourism in Paraguay," organized by the Argentine Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Marca País, and the Argentine Chamber of Tourism. The event brought together wineries, tourism providers, operators, and specialized journalists, and made it possible to showcase Mendoza's wine offerings to influential figures in the Paraguayan market.

Ambassador Nielsen and Jaime Cassola, executive director of Paranair, also participated in the event. They emphasized the growing interest of the Paraguayan public in wine tourism and highlighted that connectivity is a decisive factor in expanding these flows.

Destination presentation and growing interest in wedding tourism

The Mendoza delegation gave an exclusive destination presentation for Paraguayan operators, focusing on wine routes, gastronomy, nature, adventure tourism, and cultural offerings. The interest of those present was especially strong in the wedding segment, a category that continues to expand.

According to Emetur data, Paraguay ranks as one of the most active markets for weddings in Mendoza, with groups ranging from 30 to 700 people (66 to 1,543 pounds). This type of travel generates a direct and multiplier economic impact, as it involves lodging, gastronomy, transportation, event organization, and complementary experiences.

A possible direct flight that would boost tourist arrivals

As part of the mission, Testa and Mengarelli held an additional meeting with the executive director of Paranair, where they evaluated the possibility of announcing a direct flight between Mendoza and Asunción before the end of the summer. The implementation of this route would represent a qualitative leap in terms of connectivity and could further consolidate Mendoza's presence in the Paraguayan market.

Today Paraguayan visitors can reach the province with just one stopover or even by land, something that was highlighted as a competitive advantage during meetings with local operators.
