Mercedes-Benz is considering a $400 million investment for its Argentina plant
The German automaker could invest 400 million in La Matanza to produce the electric Sprinter and Vito
Mercedes-Benz could take a key step in Argentina with a 400 million dollar investment in its Virrey del Pino plant. The project aims to position the country in the manufacturing of electric vehicles.
The initiative is being led by Prestige Auto, the company that took control of Mercedes-Benz Autos' operations. Its president, Daniel Herrero, confirmed that the local decision has already been made, but final approval from Germany is still pending.

What is known about the possible investment?
Herrero explained that the proposal is advanced, although the green light depends on the parent company in Germany. "Mercedes still needs to gain confidence in us. We're doing very well, but it's Mercedes who must authorize it," he stated.
If it materializes, it would be one of the most important industrial investments in the Argentine automotive sector in recent years.
Production of electric models in Argentina
The plan includes the manufacturing of the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and the Mercedes-Benz Vito 100% electric. The idea is for Argentina to become a regional hub for the production of this type of vehicle.

"We're going to invest to have an electrified Sprinter and Vito," Herrero said, highlighting the commitment to sustainable mobility.
What will happen with the combustion Sprinter?
Despite the move toward electric, the traditional Sprinter could remain relevant in some markets. Herrero indicated that they are seeking to export from Argentina to African countries, where electrification is still progressing more slowly.

"That model can remain alive beyond 2030 in markets that need a less technological vehicle, with simpler and more accessible fuels," he explained.
