Mercedes-Benz will manufacture a new pickup truck in Argentina: what is known so far
Mercedes-Benz confirmed the production of a new utility vehicle in the country
A second van from Mercedes-Benz will begin production in the country. It will be at the historic Virrey del Pino plant, where the Sprinter is currently manufactured.
The announcement was made by Daniel Herrero, former Toyota executive and current CEO of Grupo Prestige, which now controls the site after a multimillion-dollar purchase. The new model will be another utility vehicle, although it has not yet been confirmed whether it is a new version of the Vito or a different vehicle.

Which model will Mercedes-Benz manufacture in Virrey del Pino?
Herrero explained that the model will be "in the van line-up." With that, it is clear that it will be a work van, like the Sprinter or the Vito. However, he avoided giving specific details.
What is known is that the group in charge wants to maintain domestic production of utility vehicles, taking advantage of the existing industrial infrastructure. The plant has capacity and specialized labor.
What is happening with the Sprinter made in Argentina?
The Sprinter will continue to be produced in the country, but no longer under the direct control of Mercedes-Benz. It will now be in the hands of the new owners of the plant, who will take over to maintain production of the current model.

A new generation is already being produced in Europe, with 100% electric engines. That technology can't yet be replicated in Argentina, which is why the decision was made to continue with the previous version.
The Argentine Sprinter is a classic in its segment
For almost 30 years, it has been assembled at the Juan Manuel Fangio Industrial Center. It was the brand's first plant outside its home country. Today, it is a leader in its category and remains highly valued.

Mercedes-Benz invests in a new plant in Zárate
Meanwhile, the parent company (Trucks and Buses division) is investing USD 110 million in a new industrial complex in Zárate, Buenos Aires province.
The site covers 20 hectares and is only 2 kilometers (1.24 miles) from the port, giving it a key export profile. Trucks and buses will be manufactured there starting in the first half of 2026.
