Meta announced on Monday the appointment of Dina Powell McCormick as chair and vice chair of the board, in a designation that stands out not only for its weight on Wall Street, but also for her close relationship with President Donald Trump.
It is the first time that the company has created the position of chair, a signal of the strategic role that it will have in the new stage of growth of the technology giant.
Powell McCormick, a former Goldman Sachs partner and adviser to two United States presidents, was a key figure during Trump's first term, when she served as deputy national security adviser.
In that role, she worked directly with the president on foreign policy initiatives, including the foundations of the Abraham Accords in the Middle East. After the announcement of her incorporation into Meta, Trump publicly celebrated the decision, calling it "a great choice" and praising her "strength and distinction" during her time at the White House.

The executive will be in charge of seeking strategic alliances and overseeing Meta's ambitious infrastructure plan, valued at about 600 billion dollars for the next decade.
Her appointment is interpreted by investors as a signal that the company, led by Mark Zuckerberg, is seeking to rely on figures with direct access to centers of political and financial power to secure capital and global partnerships in the midst of the race for leadership in artificial intelligence.
Zuckerberg emphasized that the combination of financial experience and international relationships of Powell McCormick makes her a key piece for this stage.

However, her closeness to Trump also is seen as a strategic asset, in a context in which the relationship between big tech companies and Washington is once again central, especially in the face of regulations, geopolitical competition, and the use of AI as a tool of economic and strategic power.
Meta has invested billions of dollars in the last year to strengthen its position in artificial intelligence, including a deal close to 15 billion dollars with Scale AI.
Even so, the market has pressured the company to follow the path of competitors such as Nvidia, OpenAI, and xAI, which have sought high-profile alliances, especially in the Middle East, taking advantage of sovereign funds and energy resources. Powell McCormick's track record at Goldman Sachs, where she led the relationship with sovereign funds, fits directly with that objective.

The executive joined Meta's board in April 2025 and left that position last month to assume her new role. She comes from BDT & MSD Partners, where she held senior management positions and will remain connected as an adviser.
She is married to David McCormick, former CEO of Bridgewater Associates and current Republican senator for Pennsylvania, which further reinforces her closeness to Trump's political circle and the Republican Party.
