Meta wants to create an artificial intelligence superior to the human brain
Zuckerberg seeks for Meta to lead the development of AI that surpasses human intelligence
Meta is reorganizing its structure and recruiting talent with multimillion-dollar salaries to develop artificial intelligence that surpasses human capabilities.
Mark Zuckerberg's company seeks to position itself as a global leader in AI, following some setbacks with its latest technology launches.

What is superintelligence and why is Meta pursuing it?
Superintelligence aims to create AI systems that perform tasks beyond what the human mind can achieve. It is still a theoretical concept, but it is gaining increasing traction in Silicon Valley.
According to The New York Times and Bloomberg, Meta has created a new laboratory dedicated exclusively to this area, focusing on achieving the much sought-after artificial general intelligence (AGI).
An elite team with salaries approaching nine figures
To advance the plan, Meta is recruiting about 50 AI experts, offering compensation packages ranging from seven to nine figures. Several come from rival companies such as Google and OpenAI.

This working group is known internally as the "superintelligence group." Its mission is to create models capable of imitating—and eventually surpassing—human reasoning.
Llama 4's failure and Behemoth's delay
Meta recently stumbled with the Llama 4 model, which was criticized by experts and evaluated as only a minor advance compared to industry leaders. There were even allegations that the published results were inflated.

The lack of real improvements led to the postponement of its successor, Behemoth. This triggered internal alarms about the direction of the artificial intelligence division.
Zuckerberg takes direct control of the project
Meta's CEO is becoming increasingly involved. He created a WhatsApp group called "Recruiting Party" to coordinate the search for talent with key executives.
He is also negotiating an investment exceeding 10 billion dollars in Scale AI, a key company for training AI models.

What does Scale AI do and why is it so important?
Scale AI specializes in data labeling and cleaning, essential processes for training AI. It has already worked with OpenAI, Microsoft, and Cohere.
Its founder, Alexandr Wang, has joined Meta's project, and more employees from his company could be integrated. The idea is to accelerate internal development without repeating previous mistakes.

Fierce competition in the race for AI
Since the launch of ChatGPT in 2022, technology giants have invested billions to avoid falling behind. Microsoft invested more than 13 billion in OpenAI, while Amazon spent 8 billion on Anthropic.
Meanwhile, Google continues to bet on DeepMind, its research laboratory acquired in 2014, which is now a key part of its strategy.
