The British McLaren driver claimed a commanding victory in a race marked by an incident-filled start involving Leclerc, Hamilton, and Verstappen

The 2025 Mexican Grand Prix once again delivered one of the most thrilling races on the calendar. From the start, the action was nonstop: Lando Norris, Charles Leclerc, Lewis Hamilton, and Max Verstappen starred in an intense four-way battle at the first corner of the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, which ended up determining the course of the competition.
The chaos nearly turned into a multi-car accident. Norris dove inside with his McLaren, while the Ferraris lined up alongside him and Verstappen attempted an overtake on the outside line. The Dutchman lost the racing line, went wide at the first corner, and rejoined right next to Hamilton, with whom he had slight contact.
In the midst of that duel, Hamilton braked too late at turn 4 and gained an advantage by cutting the track, a maneuver that cost him a 10-second penalty in the pits. That penalty set him back and prevented him from fighting for the podium. In that context, and taking advantage of the initial chaos, Norris took the lead and set an unmatchable pace for Leclerc. By mid-race, he already had more than a 15-second lead over the Monegasque driver.

Verstappen, meanwhile, attempted an aggressive strategy: he switched his medium tires for softs before the halfway point of the 71 laps, which compromised his pace in the final part and left him temporarily in eighth, behind Hamilton.
Oliver Bearman's Haas surprised by holding third place for much of the race, outperforming the Mercedes of George Russell and Andrea Kimi Antonelli. Behind them, Oscar Piastri climbed to sixth position, a result that allowed Norris to snatch the championship lead by one point.
In the final laps, Verstappen regained ground and managed to reach the podium with a risky strategy, extending the use of the soft tire to the end. The top three were Norris, Leclerc, and Verstappen, after a Virtual Safety Car in the closing laps froze the positions.
Meanwhile, Bearman finished fourth, thus achieving his personal best position in F1 and Haas's best result of the season. The Top 10 was completed by: Piastri, Antonelli, Russell, Hamilton, Ocon, and Bortoleto.

With this victory, Lando Norris became the new leader of the 2025 Formula 1 World Championship, confirming McLaren's great moment, while the Mexican crowd enjoyed a day full of excitement, strategy, and edge-of-the-seat maneuvers.
Alpine can't catch a break
Meanwhile, Franco Colapinto delivered a solid performance under adverse conditions, especially due to the initial contact from Stroll that set him back significantly. The French team opted for a hard tire strategy from the start for the Argentine, extending his first stint until the final third of the race. Then, on soft tires, he managed to stay behind his teammate Pierre Gasly, finishing in 16th position, thanks in large part to the retirements of Lawson, Hulkenberg, Alonso, and Sainz.

Gasly, with a different strategy (medium-soft), crossed the line in 15th place, capping off a discreet weekend for Alpine, which still hasn't scored points in recent rounds.
