The debut of the Madrid circuit in Formula 1 continues to be marked by incidents. In just three sessions of the 2026 Spanish Grand Prix, three red flags were recorded following the accidents of Arvid Lindblad, Lewis Hamilton, and Oliver Bearman.

The first significant episode occurred on Friday during FP2 when Lindblad suffered a heavy impact that forced the activity to stop. However, Free Practice 3 was interrupted again this Saturday due to Hamilton's accident.

The Ferrari driver lost control of his car and ended up against the barriers. Although his car suffered less damage than Lindblad's Racing Bulls, the incident had a considerable impact on the session's development due to the time needed to repair the crash barrier.

Hamilton caused a long interruption

The work of the marshals to repair the barriers generated a significant delay and even raised doubts about the possibility of completing FP3 before qualifying.

Finally, the drivers were able to return to the track and take advantage of the remaining minutes to prepare for Saturday's decisive day. In that context, Franco Colapinto managed to finish ahead of his Alpine teammate, Pierre Gasly, in one of the few positive references for the French team.

But the activity was halted again towards the end. With less than a minute to go before the checkered flag, Oliver Bearman was involved in another accident that once again highlighted the demands of the new Madrid circuit.

Colapinto finished 11th in FP3

In a practice session affected by interruptions, Colapinto finished 11th, while Gasly took 16th place.

The Argentine thus finished ahead of his teammate in the last practice session before qualifying, in a weekend where Alpine is still trying to find the necessary performance to catch up with its rivals.
