Microsoft Edge incorporates a new feature for its Copilot chatbot that allows the artificial intelligence assistant to access information from all open tabs in the browser. This way, users can ask questions about the content they are browsing, compare products, or request summaries of several articles at the same time.
The update brings several AI-powered tools. Among them, the ability to generate automatic podcasts from the tabs, quick summaries, and even interactive quizzes based on what is being read.
According to the company, users will be able to choose which experiences to activate and deactivate those that do not interest them. This aims to give more control over the assistant's capabilities.
New tools and changes in Copilot mode
Microsoft also announced that it is retiring the previous Copilot Mode, which had more agent-like functionalities such as autonomously booking appointments. Those capabilities have been integrated into the "Browse with Copilot" tool.
Another new feature is the "Study and Learn" mode, which transforms any article into a study session with interactive questions and explanations. Additionally, an AI writing assistant appears when the user starts typing on a webpage.
Users can grant Copilot permission to access their browsing history and obtain more accurate and relevant answers. The assistant also incorporates long-term memory, allowing it to remember previous conversations and adapt its responses.
Improvements in daily experience
When opening a new tab, a redesigned page will appear that combines chat, search, and web browsing. It includes the Journeys feature, which organizes browsing history into categories for easy revisiting.
In the mobile version, the app will allow screen sharing with Copilot to discuss what is being viewed in real-time. The company promises clear visual signals when the assistant is active, listening, or performing any action, so users always know what is happening.
These updates aim to make Edge a smarter and more useful browser for those who manage many tabs at the same time. From comparing product prices to obtaining research summaries, Copilot positions itself as a more powerful browsing companion.
The focus is on practicality: instead of copying and pasting text between tabs, now it is enough to ask the chatbot to process all the open information. Microsoft emphasizes that the user maintains control over what data they share and what functions they use.
