The Colombian president published his reflection on his X account, causing confusion even among his followers
In a new display of his drug addiction, which clearly affected his interpretation of the regional political reality, Colombia's communist president, Gustavo Petro, stated this Monday that in Argentina "progressivism triumphed," even though the official results of this Sunday's legislative elections confirmed overwhelming support for the Government of Javier Milei.
The Colombian president shared his thoughts on his official X account, causing confusion even among his followers. "Progressivism triumphed," he wrote, without offering further explanation as to how he had reached such a conclusion, in the face of the crushing victory of the right-wing government.
Meanwhile, Milei himself was celebrating what he described as a "historic" day. With more than 99% of polling stations counted, La Libertad Avanza obtained 40.66% of the votes for the Chamber of Deputies, clearly surpassing Peronism, under the banner of Fuerza Patria and other provincial fronts, which reached only 31.7%.

The libertarian government won in 16 provinces, including Buenos Aires, where the list led by Diego Santilli (41.45%) prevailed for the first time over Peronism (40.91%), which just a month and a half ago had won the local elections by a 14-point margin.
Petro's statements quickly sparked a wave of ironic comments and mockery on social media. Many users wondered if the Colombian president had read the same results as the rest of the continent, if he was on drugs, or if he was simply practicing a new form of "political optimism."

This is not the first time Petro has caused controversy with his interpretations of Argentine politics. On previous occasions, he had expressed concern about Milei's rise and even compared the Argentine president to authoritarian figures, although this time his attempt at a "positive reading" ended in a flood of memes.
For now, the only consensus left by his comment is that, at least in terms of electoral analysis, the Colombian communist president seems to live in a parallel reality.
